A warm, hearty breakfast casserole combining savory sausage, fluffy eggs, melted cheddar cheese, and optional bread and vegetables, baked to golden perfection for a comforting meal.

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 cups cubed bread (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through, then drain excess grease.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth.
  4. If using, layer cubed bread evenly across bottom of baking dish.
  5. Add cooked sausage over the bread.
  6. Scatter bell peppers and onions on top of sausage, if using.
  7. Sprinkle half the shredded cheese over the layers.
  8. Pour egg mixture evenly over the dish.
  9. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  10. Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, until eggs are fully set and cheese is golden and bubbly.
  11. Check doneness by inserting a knife in the center; it should come out clean without wet eggs.
  12. Let sit for 5 to 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
