Mini Pretzel Dogs are bite-sized snacks made by wrapping soft pretzel dough around mini hot dogs, then boiling briefly in baking soda water before baking to achieve a golden, chewy crust. Perfect for parties, snacks, or breakfast, they have a unique salty and chewy texture with a soft interior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 20 mini hot dogs
  • 6 cups water
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Coarse salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let rest 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise for 30 minutes until puffed up with bubbles.
  4. Roll dough out into long strips using a rolling pin.
  5. Wrap each dough strip tightly (but without tearing) around a mini hot dog.
  6. Bring 6 cups water and ¼ cup baking soda to a boil in a pot.
  7. Boil each wrapped hot dog in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds then remove with a slotted spoon.
  8. Place pretzel dogs on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Brush each with beaten egg to create an egg wash and sprinkle coarse salt on top.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 220°C (425°F) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Use room temperature hot dogs for even baking and better texture., Avoid rolling dough too thick around hot dogs to ensure even cooking., Add shredded cheese inside the dough before wrapping for a cheesy variation., Experiment with seasonings such as garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or chili flakes on top before baking., Leftovers can be reheated in oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness; avoid microwave to prevent sogginess., Lightly flour hands and work surface to prevent dough from sticking while rolling and shaping.
