Claire Whitmore

Hi, I’m Claire Whitmore, the baker and storyteller behind Cozy Oven Kitchen. I’m 42, married to Ryan, and a mom of three — Noah, our endlessly energetic boy, and his two sisters, Lily and Mae. Our days are loud, busy, and always moving, but baking has been my quiet place for as long as I can remember. When the oven warms the kitchen and the house finally slows down, I feel grounded again — connected to family, memory, and the simple comfort of making something with my hands.

Cozy Oven Kitchen is where I share the recipes I make for my family: comforting breads, simple pies, everyday desserts, and bakes that feel warm and familiar. These aren’t show-off recipes — they’re the kind you make on a regular afternoon, when the oven is on and everyone is waiting for something good.

A Story Rooted in the Mountains

Some of my earliest memories come from the years I spent living with my grandmother in the mountains of Big Bear, California.

Her home was small, surrounded by pine trees, and often filled with the smell of something baking. Winters were quiet, summers were slow, and baking was part of everyday life — not a hobby, but a rhythm.

My grandmother baked the way many home cooks do: without measurements, without rush, and without stress. She taught me to listen to the dough, to notice how a batter should feel, and to trust my senses more than a recipe card. I stood beside her on a wooden stool, learning how to knead bread, crimp pie crusts, and wait patiently while something finished baking.

Those moments stayed with me long after I grew up and moved away.

Why I Still Bake Today

Years later, after getting married and raising three children of my own, I found myself returning to the same recipes and techniques my grandmother taught me. Baking became a way to remember her — and to pass a little of that warmth on to my own family.

Every loaf of bread, every pie, every simple dessert I make today is connected to those mountain kitchen memories. Cozy Oven Kitchen exists so those lessons don’t get lost — and so you can bake them into your own life too.
